NYC Green Market in Kew Gardens?

The Council on Environment of New York City is the organizing body in charge of all of the city's green markets. Us in KG and FH, many of whom I know really want a green market here, do not have one and we're really angry about it. Well, not really angry but we just really want one really bad! Anyway, I found out today that they are looking for more spots in NYC to host Green Markets at so I wrote their development team with a request to come check out the KG area. So, question is, if they decided to put one here, where would the best spot be? The several spots I'm thinking about are: in the north LIRR parking lot, the KG Theatre Park, in front of TD Bank, the parking lot for the Overlook at Forest Park which would be really central for FH and KG people. What do you all think?

  1. Love this idea! It would have to be somewhere that the sellers could park their trucks.

  2. Exactly, somewhere where trucks can be parked and tents set up. They say that the biggest thing for them is an area with high foot traffic.

  3. What about the little park area at the corner of Park Lane and Metropolitan or at the KG gate of the park? The Overlook would be great because of the parking area.

  4. I think that the Overlook would be a great spot for a green market! It's away from KG commercial areas. has parking and has benches and grass for eating a leisurely lunch after shopping is done!

  5. I think so too. I am now in contact with the three organizations responsible for green and farmers markets in NY. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they see what a perfect spot this would be for them and us.

  6. I think the overlook would be the best spot. 1-high visibility, the park is always full, 2- major transportation hub for farmers and visitors (jackie robinson, grand central, van wyk, queens blvd, metropolitan ave, Q10, Q37, E, F, LIRR), 3- there is a 12-foot wide walkway around the entire park where vendors could set up tables, 4- there are bathrooms on site... need I say more?

  7. EXACTLY - The decision makers are watching this blog to see interest so everyone keep leaving your comments/questions/concerns etc to show them what a great spot this would be to bring a green market!!!

  8. The overlook for sure. Especially in the summer, it would get people doing their regular shopping on the high street as well as park-goers in need of some refreshment.
