Best Kew Gardens/Local Photos

So we get a lot of people looking at the blog from surrounding areas all over NYC and I was wondering if the blog gives viewers who have not been here a good realistic vision of what KG is like and I think we can do a better job in that department. Therefore, I am asking everyone to send me your best shots of the area with a short description and the name of photographer which I will post here for us to enjoy as well as to show those people not from here what KG is all about. Please send by August 24th to kewgardensblog@gmail.com

Prime Real Estate Available on Queens Museum's Panorama

The folks over at the Queens Museum of Art have thought of a unique way to battle the economic downturn: selling off some miniature real estate! The establishment's best known piece is the 9,335-square-foot model of New York City that was built for the 1964 World's Fair. For a fairly low price, you can now Adopt-a-Building in any of the small scale five boroughs (your own apartment building may even be there). As of yesterday, single apartments went up for sale for around $50, houses for $250, and as the NY Times reports "for $10,000, developers can have their brand-new glass-tower condo buildings added to the panorama — no matter how many units are languishing on the market."

It is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of people battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and treatments for other types of cancer, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. These treatments have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

  • A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
  • A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
  • A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
  • A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Please make a donation to support our team's participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check our team's Website frequently to see our team's progress, and thanks for your support!

Artwork Appraisals

Hi All, So in my other life outside of blogging I work with art. Mainly American artwork from 1900 - 1975 but I work with mostly everything. I have discovered some real treasures for people and with the rich history of this area I am sure that there are some extraordinary pieces of art around in the basements, attics, hanging on walls or packed away in the garages in Kew Gardens. For Kew Gardens and Forest Hills residents I am offering to give free evaluations/appraisals for your artwork. Just email me at kewgardensblog@gmail.com and we can set up a time for me to come over and take a look at the art, take some pictures of it and some notes on it, and I will provide you with a valuation, maybe an offer for it, and contact information for moving forward with selling/insuring/researching/etc. Paintings, sculptures, photographs, anything art related, just send me an email!
